To Open, or Not to Open?
I have a copy of Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues sitting on my record shelf. It’s some rare clear vinyl pressing with art work by Robert Rauschenberg. The copy that I have is sealed, I found it at the Syracuse Flea Market like 5 years ago for $5! So the question is do I open this LP up and enjoy the awesome clear vinyl & art work? Or keep it sealed? I will never sell it so I am not worried about decreased value. Also I have a “normal” copy of Speaking in Tongues that I play all the time.

This video was shot in 2003, a year before Funeral came out. It’s Arcade Fire doing “Wake Up”, “No Cars Go” & “Old Flame”. It’s the (apparently) earliest known footage of Arcade Fire as we know them today. It’s pretty cool to see them as a smaller(not in band members) band like this. Tomorrow they will play in front of thousands of people at MSG. Not bad for an “Indie Rock” band, uh?
I wish I could have seen this, I know they played the Bug Jar this same year opening up for the Unicorns.
I was sitting around today & thinking about Matt Furie & how much I heart his work. It’s nothing crazy, but it reminds me of being 10 years old (except the sex ones) & I like that. He has this cool comic series called Boys Club that just cracks me up.

The new Arcade Fire comes out the first week of August & I am pretty excited about it. The songs I have heard from it so far have been awesome! This is a cool little “trailer” for their upcoming NYC show w/ the song “Rococo”. The show is going to be streamed live on Youtube & I guess will be directed by a well-known director. Should be neat!

Guided By Voices are doing a “claissic GBV line-up” tour this fall. The first time I heard GBV was when I was 15. I heard them at EVERY party since then, without a doubt GBV will come blasting on. It took 5 to 6 years of that for me to finally say “okay I like SOME of their songs”. 15 years later they have grown on me, a lot. Hands down the most underrated American rock & roll bands of all time.
